Canon EOS Rebel T5i vs Canon SX50

There's always arguments about which type of camera a newbie photographer should use or someone who want to learn photography should use. Canon SX50 is a great camera for any user and soon there will be Canon SX60 which will be even better. You can't pay more than $500 for a camera then you Canon SX50 is the best option out there unless you go for an old used DSLR camera. You can do lot with this Canon Bridge camera, remember it has a CMOS sensor and do well  in low light conditions too. This is a great camera for anyone who want to take great photos and don't want to spend more than $500 for a camera.

But. If you want to be career level photographer or have a better budget then you can go for a DSLR and it will be a better choice long term if you are willing to spend more for accessories like lenses etc. But remember to have a even good entry level DSLR with all must need camera accessory you need to have at least $1000 budget. Because You need expensive accessory for DSLR camera which is even more heavy than a point and shoot camera. For one of those Canon bridge cameras you can use a $25 Tripod but for a DSLR you will need more steady and heavy tripod which would cost you $75 - $100 at least. You will need a better and bigger camera bag too so it also will cost you $100 or so. Anyway if you have a good budget then go for a DSLR it's a better choice then.

Right now the latest entry level DSLR camera in the market is Canon EOS Rebel T5i. Cost is from $649.00 (body only) to $999.00 (With 180135mm EF IS STM Lens) at Amazon (Here). If you have a Canon EOS T4i then it's not for you. This is not a upgrade just a replacement camera since most features are pretty much same. But cool thing is you can use cheaper lenses with this new model. It has few cool features like,

  • 18.0 megapixel CMOS (APS-C) sensor.
  • EOS Full HD Movie mode with Movie Servo AF for continuous focus tracking of moving subjects.
  • Vari-angle touchscreen 3.0-inch Clear View LCD monitor II.
  • ISO 10012800 and expandable to 25600 in H mode.
  • Compatible with EF and EF-S lenses.
So even it's little expensive Canon EOS Rebel T5i would be a great camera for start learning photography. It's has nothing really big but a average camera with no bad points.

Cool thing about Amazon is they do always have great combo offers. and for this Canon DSLR they do have a good offer for those who have a tight budget. If your budget is $1000 then check this one out. You can all the main accessories you need along with the camera like camera bag, Tripod, a Telephoto & Wide Angle converter set, 3 filters and many more stuff. But most importantly you get 2 lenses. Canon SX50 Superzoom video and photo samples

I found this Youtube video make by a Canon SX50 user and it shows some live samples of 50x zoom capabilities and also photo quality. It shows how far you can zoom out which should be 1200mm in 35mm? equivalent

Video was made kinda in low light so the 1200mm zoom seems not so sharp. It's would probably sharper in good sunny day. Also remember If you want to take photos with maximum zoom then use a tripod. You won't able to get great photos if you do it hand held. If you are use a telephoto interchangeable lens or real beast like Canon EF 800mm f/5.6L IS USM Super Telephoto Lens ( Link Here ) You need a tripod. Or you will be disappointed. Canon SX50 is a great camera but it has it's own limits too. For a price like $350 it can't do miracles.

52 Inch Tripod for Canon SX50 Camera

Tripod is one of the most important accessories you need to have with your Canon SX50 HS Camera. If you are going to take out door photos or Macro photos then you must have a tripod. It can make world of change in photo quality. We all know the best feature in Canon Powershot SX50 HS Camera is it's 50x optical zoom. If you want use max zoom then you should have a tripod. It's next to impossible to get nice sharp photos hand held when your lens is 50x zoomed. It's same for all superzoom bridge cameras. If you need to focus on something far away you need to use a Tripod. Hand held is not the best way to do it. even a tiny shake can ruin photos.

If you are into Macro photography then you are going to enjoy your SX50 HS Camera. It has 2 great built-in Marco modes. Also you can use a super macro filter and get even better macro photos. But Macro photos need time. You have to held your camera and stay without shaking till the right moment. It take some time to focus on right place like eye of creature or center of flower. It is something very hard to do with hand held camera. Tripod is a great help ! you can use to keep camera without even smallest shake. I always you a Tripod with my SX10 or my brothers SX50. Specially when I take photos of flowers which always shake because of wind. You have to wait for right moment still flower become still. Or when you want to take macro shots of ants, dragonflies or butterflies.
52 Inch Tripod for Canon SX50 Camera

There are Tripods for various prices. Some are big and heavy and expensive. Those are for big DSLR cameras. For your Canon SX50 you don't need big and heavy tripod. What you need is small and light weight one with you can carry with you anywhere. This 57 Inch Professional Photo & Video Tripod is perfect for the task. It's made of Aluminum so it feels like a feather. You won't even feel it. It has 3-Way Pan head, Rapid-Action Locks Legs, Built In Bubble Leveling, Quick release Platform and Rubber feet. Also you get ButterflyPhoto Micro Fiber Cleaning Cloth and Deluxe Universal 5" LCD Screen Protector which you should buy anyway. It's a must to keep your LCD screen safe from scratches and finger prints. All of this cost you around only $22 ! (shipping included).

This can be a great Tripod for hiker or someone who plan to go on hiking trip. It's ultra light so you have no problem carrying it. Also its easy fix to your camera too. Usually I keep it fixed to the camera while my taking out door photos. Specially when I'm hiking or something some outdoor adventure. I hate to fix it everytime I need to use it. Since it's weight like feather it's not hard to carry both fixed. I just put it over my shoulders and hang to legs of tripod. If you are looking for a Cheap but good tripod for your Canon SX50 camera then this is one of the best choices you have.

67mm Filter Adapter With Filter Set Combo for $23

If you have bought Canon SX50 Camera or going to buy one then one of  the main accessories you need is 67mm Filter Adapter. Without this you can mount filters to your Canon Powershot SX50 HS Camera just like its older models like SX40, SX30 etc. You need filters because these can come handy time to time. You need to keep UV filter mounted on your camera as protector filter to keep your camera lens safe. Most important part of Canon SX30 Camera is the lens. If it get scratched or cracked then it gonna cost your more than half of camera price to get it repaired by sending to a Canon factory. Better buying a new camera. But a $10 filter can save all this money so why not just use it. Any kind of damage probably will be absorbed by the UV filter so all you will have to do is replace it. $10 filter is pretty cheaper to replace than $400 camera.
To mount a 67mm UV filter you need to have a 67mm filter adapter. You can't mount filters directly to lens barrel in Canon SX50 any other cameras in this bridge series. Canon has it's own  67mm Filter Adapter for this camera and it cost you around $20. And UV filter will cost you another $10 at least. If you are going to use 67mm filter adapter then you will need a 67mm Lens Cap and 67mm Lens Hood ( you can skip the lens hood since it wont be needing most of the time ) and all these things will cost you around $50 at least.

But there is a Bower 67mm filter adapter, UV Filter Combo which cost you only $23 ! There are more items in combo package. You get a Bower 67mm Filter Adapter, a 67mm Tulip Hard Lens Hood, 67mm UV Filter, 67mm Circular Polarizing Filter, 67mm FLD Filter and Precision Design 5-Piece Camera & Lens Cleaning Kit. Only thing you miss here is 67mm Lens Cap which will only cost you $5-$8. There are only few other deals match for this one. Buying a good Combo like this from Amazon will same you shipping cost and some money which you can use for buying another accessory like Spare battery or Tripod.

67mm Filter Adapter With Filter Set
Filter adapter is plastic so handle it carefully. Just check it carefully before trying to mount it on lens barrel. it will fit only one way and don't press too hard. If you think this one is too cheap you can always buy the original Canon 67mm Filter adapter which will be around $20. But I don't see why anyone would go for that when you can have all accessory set for same price.

Canon SX50 HS camera doesn't come with a Lens Hood so you will need to buy one separate if you use Lens Hoods. and even cheaper len hood cost you around $15. You can check around in Amazon. Hood won't improve image quality much but it will provide extra security for front element of  the lens barrel .

Complete Cleaning Kit comes very handy too. You need to keep your camera lens clean from dust. It's the worst enemy of  lens next to fungus. If dust goes to lens mechanism you get get this nasty "Lens Error, Please restart" message. I get it in my Canon SX10 Camera and I know how badly it can mess things  for you. Camera must be kept clean and dust free. Always clean the camera before taking it somewhere or when you back from a outdoor trip. This is improve your camera life.

67mm Lens Cap for Canon SX50

If you are going to use 67mm Filter Adapter for your Canon SX50 Camera then you need a 67mm Lens Cap too. The original Lens cap is too small and won't fit with 67mm Filter adapter. There are several types of 67mm Lens Caps but make sure one you buy is a "snap on" type Lens adapter. It has to be one of these to fit your Canon SX50 camera.

A Canon 67mm Snap on Lens Cap will cost you around $15 with free shipping at Amazon. But can find Chinese made unbranded 67mm Lens caps for cheaper there too. If you like to keep everything original go for the Canon Lens Cap if not then it's fine for buy one of those unbranded lens cap. I don't see much difference But you can read in Amazon customer reviews they say Canon lens cap is better quality.

When you are going to buy a 67mm Lens Cap there is another item you should buy alone with it. That's a 67mm Lens Hood. Remember Canon SX50 doesn't come with a Lens Hood so you will need to buy one separate. I'm planning to talk about Lens hoods later but for this post I wan to recommend an very good one which you can mount on your 67mm Filter Adapter. It's the Canon LH-DC60 Lens Hood (  Here ). This one work perfectly with 67mm Adapter or any 67mm Filter you might want to mount. This Canon Flower Lens Hood has been used or older Canon bridge cameras like Canon SX40, SX30, SX20 etc. You can read plenty of Good reviews from Canon superzoom owners about this Lens Hood.
